The Uighur Genocide Just For Being Muslim!?

Let’s not turn a blind eye to what is currently taking place in China. There is a very credible case that the Chinese Government is carrying out the crime of genocide against the Uighur Muslim minority in Xinjiang, China. We’ve experienced similar cultural genocides before in history like; Rwanda, Nazi Germany, Bosnia and more. Now, unfortunately, once again the same accounts of oppression and ethnic cleansing are being repeated! But hardly anyone is talking about it, why? Well, there is no denying that information provided by the media is generally filtered, we know only what they want us to know, its the simple rule of ‘authority in control’. Therefore, this makes it very difficult to truly understand the severity of this situation, however, from the reports we are aware of, that should in fact encourage us not only as a community but also as a generation to make these current affairs a subject of our conversations. The Uighur Muslim community are mentally and physically suffering, experiencing violent discrimination and deliberate infliction of harm at the hands of a Government.

What Is Happening to the Uighur People in China?

Acts carried out by the Chinese Government has reportedly detained hundreds of thousands of innocent Uighur people and subjected them to a so-called ‘program‘ also referred to as ‘re-education camps’ and forces them to renounce religious preaching and pledge loyalty to the party to assimilate the minority group into the Chinese mainstream. The program aims to transform Uighurs, Kazakhs and other ethnic minorities into a disciplined, Chinese-speaking industrial workforce, loyal to the Communist Party and Chinese authority. These authorities label Uighur beliefs as “illegal religious and separatist activities”. The objective here is to raise public awareness, to increase knowledge on these occurrences, encourage support for the Uighur people and stimulate action. We have the opportunity to be a part of an educational and advocacy movement aimed at the concerted effort to tie media exposure, public relations, and government action together into a single strategy designed for the liberation of the Uighurs from the oppression they face at the hands of the Chinese government. Though in order to achieve this common goal, in fact, requires strategies of effective communication, meaning that we must grow more comfortable in having these hard conversations to address the issues that do not receive enough international, public and political support. This is a campaign for Justice, to safeguard the fundamental human rights of at-risk or impacted communities!
