As the internet has become the fabric of society, more ambitious, determined women have found significant success in the industry of entrepreneurship using social media platforms such as Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram. The innovative use of social media to promote new ventures from fashion, cosmetics, jewellery brands to home bakers, fitness coaches, graphic designers and more has also expanded with new projects. The path to becoming a successful female entrepreneur can be extremely difficult, especially with the rise in competition but the unique role social media plays in their business strategy is a key factor for success.
I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the labels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.
Maya Angelou
There is no doubt that women have long been underrepresented in entrepreneurship. There was never an easy path for women to enter the world of business and gain economic independence. There can be a culture of doing business and being a leader that conforms to traditionally masculine stereotypes. Society’s perceptions of what are and aren’t traditionally female industries and roles have traditionally discouraged women from working or building their own independent empires. But today ‘women are twice as likely as men to start a business’ in the UK. Eventually, by creating small enterprises that focus on online resources such as social media, contemporary women continue to confidently initiate success. Women are now able to connect with each other in large communities to inspire, network, support and access each other’s enterprises from the comfort of their own homes. Right now, in a constantly evolving climate, It’s important to have female business role models, no matter if you’re just starting out or are further along on your start-up’s journey. Appreciating that there are other people who can understand what motivates you can be extremely refreshing, whether that’s to advise on your business plan or share tips on productivity.
