Find People Who Are Smarter Than You

There is absolutley no doubt in my mind that when we sit with winners, winning will be the only option in all our endeavours. From young, I was taught this principle; ‘befriend with the smartest person in the room, to aspire to be the smartest person in the room’. In reality, if you’re always the smartest person in your group, you’re actually limiting yourself and in this sense, It’s common for us to underestimate the importance of the company we keep. You see, influential people provide us with the key ingredient we need to be primarily influenced to learn how to be successful. Sitting with winners are the very types of people which teach us how to:

1. make better choices
2. manage problems
3. how to think about our lives and circumstances in helpful and self-supporting ways.

This idea that to improve on our skills we must practice with someone better, translates nicely to your personal and career successes and that’s exactly why it’s essential to surround yourself with people who are winners. Think about it … when you have the right influence, you can develop your behaviour, decisions and actions all from obtaining the right guidance. Even more so, those you spend the most time with have a huge influence on your attitude, perspective and expectations you have of yourself. Therefore, we must aim to surround ourselves around role models, mentors, and guides who think about their lives, problems, and circumstances in empowering, helpful and profitable ways. We need people who challenge us and push us to be better. Often at times, we don’t know what we are capable of until we see others achievements. This, effectively comes down to having the ability to form genuine connections and psychological bonds with ambitious, hard working individuals to ultimately help us to set new, loftier expectations of ourselves and raise the bar even higher.

Say Goodbye To The “Negative Nellies”:

Everyone knows those type of People who are constantly in turmoil or have serious drama, the ones who never manage to elevate themselves, who constantly complain and never find solutions to their problems. Far worse is that those types of negative nellies can’t help but try to bring you down right along with them. Life is hard enough – we don’t always win, and there will always be obstacles and challenges along our path to success. During those times, nothing feels better than having someone you can share your fears and doubts with like your friends/ or mentors that not only listen, but also inspire you to be the best you can be. They give you energy and help you propel forward. Find and focus on relationships with those who can share their wins and positive vibes and help you realise that you can do the same. Life is too short for constant negativity.

Strive to be inspired

Your objective must be to be inspired by your people, to find that “something” within them that drives you to instigate positive change. You will often find that people are inspired when they are set with good and consistent examples. However, there must be congruence in the words, intentions, and actions from the people you choose to surround yourself around for there to be any lasting change and influence.
