Put things into perspective During Lockdown

We’re back into a national lockdown and what many of you must be thinking is, ‘here we go again’. This situation has been a very long experience for everyone, it’s like a dessert without an expiry date, no one wants to buy that. Though, it’s moments like this where we must put things into perspective, for communities, families and friends to arise together and work hard to support each other in every way possible, as cliche as that sounds. Yes, we’re all going through a difficult period we are fully feeling the impacts of the pandemic. With the increase of numbers, we are faced with a new yet very daunting reality and our daily lives are progressively rehabilitated so remember to take care of your mental wellbeing. This experience will be personal to you and there are many different ways in which your mental health will be affected by all these restrictions and social distancing rules but you’re not alone in all this.

Take a minute for yourself to understand the impact this lockdown will have on you and reflect on how best to prepare yourself for what is to come. Remember that you are so much stronger than you think you are, this is not your first rodeo, we’ve been through this before and made it out the other side. Thinking back to the first lockdown, many people viewed it as an opportunity to either take on personal challenges, begin new hobbies, focus on fitness development or even slow down the pace and relax at home. Basically living their best lives. Or maybe that’s how it seemed. One thing to recognise is that not everything is as it seems, especially on social media. What you see is not necessarily real life so, do not feel the pressures of staying active during this lockdown if you’re simply not up for it. Everyone is coping differently which is 100% fine.

This time alone has definitely helped me place a lot of things into perspective. I can’t fully remember a time where life was still in the sense of social separation, with the creations of social applications life has transformed completely where Netflix, YouTube and social media converts to our prime source of entertainment. Some people forget the importance of a temporary mental time out, by reinforcing social isolation this discipline subsidises a positive psychological boost, contributing to the wellness of your state of mind and determines a modification to one’s energy.

What I’m trying to say is, maybe it’s time to switch off. Take this opportunity to get real with yourself, dedicate more time in understanding your emotions because you may not necessarily know exactly how you feel. Like a said its a challenging period for many people globally but its the right time to be more mindful. Listen to yourself. You’re only human so it is ok if you’re not feeling 100% yourself.

Stay Safe everyone x

Yours Truly Sasi
