I’m Not That Girl You Used To know

When I look back, I remember that girl I used to be,

The one who loved hard, and refused to see, to see the wrong that was done to me.

I got lost in searching for the better version of me,

I looked in the mirror and questioned ‘who is she?’

My condolences to that girl I used to be,

There was a time I yearned to love her but, now SHE is not me.

To the people who thought they knew me but lost me along the way,

I am sorry for the words I am to say,

My silence was loud yet my kindness was the test,

So you took advantage of my being and treated me less.

Now, I am sorry for the misunderstanding and for that healing, I pray,

Forgiveness is the burden I carry, the cross I must lay.

Did you know to find peace means to let go? So through my words, I will show,

I am not that girl you used to know!

To anyone who has ever lost me, or whoever felt lost with me,

I am sorry,

You missed the chance to watch me grow,

To see the woman I have become, the light I share, my glow,

I wave goodbye to that girl I used to know.

Now I smile at the reflection, the woman I see in the mirror,

Look at her … she is me,

That girl I see … she is me,

The girl I am, that’s the girl I was destined to be.
